Toronto FC delivered one of the most dramatic results of the MLS weekend, rallying from two goals down to defeat the Colorado Rapids 3-2 on April 4 at BMO Field.

After trailing through much of the match, Toronto flipped the game in the second half behind a surge sparked by Josh Sargent’s first MLS goal and a chaotic late sequence that sealed the comeback.

Rapids Build the Lead

Colorado looked in control early and built a two-goal advantage through composed attacking play.

The Rapids capitalized on their chances and forced Toronto into a reactive position, controlling the tempo and limiting space in the attacking third. For long stretches, Toronto struggled to establish rhythm, and Colorado’s ability to convert opportunities gave them a comfortable edge.

At that point, the match appeared to be firmly in Colorado’s hands.

Toronto Flips the Momentum

The shift came after halftime.

Toronto came out with urgency and began applying sustained pressure, eventually breaking through when Josh Sargent found the back of the net for his first MLS goal, cutting the deficit and bringing energy back into the match.

The momentum continued to build, and Toronto soon found an equalizer, erasing the two-goal deficit and completely changing the flow of the game. What had been a controlled performance from Colorado turned into an open contest with Toronto dictating play.

Late Drama Seals the Comeback

With the match level, Toronto pushed for the winner and found it in dramatic fashion.

A late sequence resulted in a Zack Steffen own goal, handing Toronto a 3-2 lead and completing the comeback in a moment that summed up the Rapids’ difficult second half.

Colorado pushed forward in the closing minutes, but Toronto remained organized and managed the final stages effectively, holding on to secure all three points.
