St. Louis City SC delivered one of its strongest defensive performances of the season on May 23, defeating Austin FC 3-0 at CITYPARK behind a shutout effort from goalkeeper Ben Lundt and an efficient attacking display.
After taking control early, St. Louis never allowed Austin to settle into the match, turning a competitive first half into a comfortable home victory.
St. Louis Builds Early Momentum
CITY SC established pressure from the opening stages and found an early breakthrough to take control of the match.
The home side consistently created dangerous moments moving forward, using possession and movement in the attacking third to stretch Austin’s defensive shape. That pressure eventually produced results, allowing St. Louis to take the lead and settle into the game.
Austin attempted to respond through transition opportunities, but St. Louis remained organized defensively and limited clear chances.
Ben Lundt Anchors the Defensive Effort
While the attack generated goals, the defensive performance proved just as important.
Goalkeeper Ben Lundt played a major role in preserving the shutout, delivering key saves as Austin pushed for a way back into the match. His performance helped maintain momentum for St. Louis and prevented Austin from building sustained pressure.
As the second half progressed, CITY SC added two more goals to extend the lead and put the result out of reach.
CITY SC Closes Out Dominant Home Win
With a three-goal advantage, St. Louis focused on managing the final stages while continuing to stay compact defensively.
Austin continued searching for a breakthrough but struggled to create dangerous opportunities against a disciplined CITY SC back line. The shutout victory marked a complete performance on both sides of the ball for St. Louis.
