Charlotte FC closed out the first stretch of the MLS season with a home victory, defeating the New England Revolution 1-0 on May 23 in the final match before the league’s World Cup break.
A single first-half goal proved to be enough, as Charlotte controlled key moments and held off New England’s attempts to find an equalizer.
Charlotte Finds Early Breakthrough
Charlotte created the decisive moment in the opening half.
After applying pressure in the attacking third, the home side found the breakthrough goal and took a 1-0 lead. The early advantage allowed Charlotte to settle into the match and play from in front for the remainder of the night.
New England attempted to respond through possession and buildup play, but clear chances remained limited through much of the first half.
Revolution Push for Equalizer
The Revolution increased urgency after halftime.
New England pushed numbers forward and created pressure in Charlotte’s half, searching for a breakthrough to level the match. Despite stretches of possession and attacking movement, the Revolution struggled to convert opportunities into a goal.
