Vargas Silences AquaSox Bats as Spokane Snaps Everett's Win Streak, 9-2

Frustration Finds a Release Valve at Everett Memorial Stadium
Spokane came into Saturday's game having dropped nine of its previous ten, and it showed exactly what a team with something to prove looks like. The Indians rolled to a 9-2 win over the Everett AquaSox at Everett Memorial Stadium, snapping the AquaSox's four-game winning streak behind a dominant outing from starter Jordy Vargas and a third-inning rally that put the game out of reach early.
Game Flow Recap: A Third-Inning Explosion Sets the Tone
Spokane wasted little time turning frustration into offense. The Indians batted around in the third inning, chasing Everett starter Evan Truitt from the game after just 2⅔ innings with a four-run outburst that included RBI singles from Roynier Hernandez, Wilder Dalis, and Kevin Hidalgo. Clayton Gray added a solo home run in the fifth his first at the High-A level in his tenth game since being promoted from Low-A Fresno — and Derek Bernard delivered a two-out, two-run double in the seventh to keep extending the margin.
Everett never found an answer at the plate against Vargas, who worked around traffic early before locking in completely, retiring 13 of his final 14 batters faced across six shutout innings. The AquaSox didn't get on the board until the seventh, when Ricardo Cova's double drove in a run, and Korbyn Dickerson added a solo home run in the eighth, his second in as many games but by then Spokane's relievers had the game well in hand. Robert Calaz added an exclamation point in the ninth with a two-run homer, his fifth of the season and first since June 2.
Star Performer: Vargas Delivers When Spokane Needed It Most
With his team mired in a brutal stretch, Jordy Vargas turned in exactly the kind of start a struggling club needs six shutout innings, eight strikeouts, and a stretch of 13 consecutive outs recorded across his final four-plus innings of work. It was a complete bounce-back performance that set the tone for Spokane's offense to do the rest.
For Everett, Korbyn Dickerson continued his hot stretch at the plate with his second home run in two games, going 3-for-4 on the night, while Ricardo Cova also finished 3-for-4 with a double. Neither could keep pace with a Spokane lineup that piled up 14 hits and added three stolen bases for good measure.
Turning Point: The Third Inning That Changed Everything
Everett's night was decided almost as soon as it began. Spokane's four-run third inning capped by a string of RBI singles that chased Truitt from the game, put the AquaSox in an early hole they never had the firepower to climb out of, especially with Vargas locking in behind it. By the time Everett found any offensive rhythm in the seventh and eighth innings, the game had long been decided.
What It Means: Streak Snapped, Records Nearly Level
The loss ends Everett's four-game winning streak and drops a game the AquaSox had controlled for much of the past week, though the club still sits at 25-22 on the season. Spokane improved to 22-24, using Saturday's result to briefly change the conversation after a rough ten-game stretch. Everett manager Ryan Scott kept perspective on the missed opportunities: "Sometimes that's just baseball. You're going to hit balls that are going to be right at people." The AquaSox will look to regroup quickly as their final homestand continues.
