Four months is a long time to wait for a win. On a partly sunny Wednesday night at Lumen Field, the Seattle Sounders finally ended the wait, beating Real Salt Lake 2-0 in front of 28,649 fans and snapping a club-record 13-match league winless run.

It was Seattle's first league victory since a 3-2 win over San Jose on May 13, and it came the way the Sounders have wanted to win all season: patient, organized, and clinical when the chances arrived.

Game Flow Recap: Patience Pays Off

The first half was tight and physical. The two sides traded corners and half-chances, Seattle picked up cautions on Kalani Kossa-Rienzi and Paul Arriola, and the teams went into the break scoreless.

Brian Schmetzer reshaped his back line at halftime, sending on Peter Kingston and Stuart Hawkins, and the Sounders came out sharper. Three minutes after the restart, Arriola picked out Danny Musovski, and the striker made no mistake for his fifth goal of the season and his second in league play.

The lead settled the home side, and on 73 minutes the Sounders doubled the advantage. Arriola and Hassani Dotson combined to set up Albert Rusnák, who finished for his seventh goal in all competitions, tied for the team lead.

Star Performer: Paul Arriola

Arriola had a hand in both goals, recording his first two assists of the season in all competitions. Both of Seattle's breakthroughs ran through him.

A Clean Sheet at the Back

Andrew Thomas made two saves on the night and collected his seventh shutout of the season, the fifth-most in MLS. The return of Jackson Ragen, back in action for the first time since injuring his knee against Austin FC on August 19, gave the back line a welcome boost.

Turning Point: The Halftime Reset

The game turned in the minutes after the interval. Schmetzer's double change freshened the defense, and Musovski's 48th-minute goal took the pressure off a group that had spent months searching for a breakthrough. From there, Seattle managed the match with the composure of a team that knew the result was within reach.

What It Means

The win moved Seattle to 8-9-8 with 32 points and stretched its unbeaten run to six matches. More importantly, it lifted a weight off the locker room heading into a busy stretch at home.

For Real Salt Lake, the loss dropped the visitors to 8-13-5. The Sounders turned their attention to a Saturday home date with Minnesota United, looking to build on a long-awaited win.
